The Milton White Award in Creative Writing

Created by screenwriter and Miami English alum Judd Klinger in 2024, the Milton White Award recognizes one or more exceptionally talented ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs in creative writing.

The Milton White Award in Creative Writing

Eligibility and Requirements:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs enrolled in the department’s Creative Writing programs are eligible.
  • Applicants should aspire to a full-time career in writing.
  • Continuing ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs only; ºÚÁÏÉçÇøs must be enrolled for the 2025/26 academic year to receive the financial award.
  • An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.

What you need to submit:

For Fiction and nonfiction: Submit one work (for example, an excerpt from a novel, script). 10-25 pages, double-spaced.

For Poetry: Submit a collection of poems, limited to 10 pages.

In addition, all applicants must submit a 1-2 page essay commemorating the life and work of former Miami English Professor Milton White.
