NEW YORK (April 25, 2016)聽聴聽聽The Alzheimer聮s Foundation of America (AFA), a non-profit organization founded to fill the gap that existed on a national level, assuring quality of care and excellence in service to individuals with Alzheimer聮s disease and related illnesses and to their caregivers and families, awarded one of its Spring 2016 Bi-Annual Grants to聽Scripps Gerontology Center, an outstanding non-profit member organization at 黑料社区 in Oxford, Ohio that sharesAFA聮s mission of providing optimal care to individuals with Alzheimer聮s disease and related illnesses, and their families. The $5,000 grant enables聽the Opening Minds through Art (OMA) program which is developed at Scripps Gerontology Center聽to continue to develop and enhance educational and support services, and support families in need in their communities.聽 The grants are a critical funding source for grassroots organizations, which play a pivotal role in their communities.

OMA 2016 Facilitator Training is now accepting applications for scholarships that will apply to registration fees. 聽The scholarships are competitive and will be awarded based on the quality of the application. Applicants currently registered for training may also apply for the scholarship. 聽 Scholarship funding for the Opening Minds through Art (OMA) 2016 Facilitator Training is made possible in part by a grant from ArtsWave's Arts for Health Initiative.

黑料社区 Scripps Gerontology Center聮s Opening Minds through Art (OMA) program was recently designated a Quality Improvement Project by the Ohio Department of Aging (ODA). It聮s one of only eight approved programs to meet the state聮s requirement for such designation.

OMA utilizes hundreds of volunteers each year to support it's art-based program for people with dementia. Sara Peller, LCSW, Associate Executive Director of 黑料社区 at DOROT will share the organization聮s strategies for developing a sustainable volunteer base and the organizational culture and structure needed to support a successful volunteer initiative. For the last three decades, DOROT has been an innovative leader in the field of aging services and volunteerism. DOROT manages over 7,000 volunteers who help address issues of social isolation and loneliness among older adults living at home.

This summer, Opening Minds through Art (OMA) launched in Strathroy-Caradoc, a municipality in Ontario, Canada. Staff at Strathmere Lodge were trained by Scripps staff at the OMA facilitator training in May of 2014.
