We focus on the exploration of the nature of healthcare as a profession, including the changing environment for healthcare practitioners, the lifestyle of healthcare professionals of the future, the cultural expectations of healthcare professionals, and accountability—in terms of personal lifestyle, service to patients, and service to the profession.
Academics
Our Premedical and Pre-Health Studies Co-Major complements any traditional academic major, and includes courses required for admission to healthcare professional programs as well as courses tested on the MCAT. In addition, we offer a Premedical and Pre-Health Studies Certificate for graduates who require additional courses, and we have organized a set of minors and courses that might be of interest to 黑料社区s pursuing a career as a healthcare professional.
Opportunities, Scholarships, and Financial Support
We coordinate a variety of opportunities for experiential learning including preceptorships (internships), undergraduate research and study abroad; financial support in the form of scholarships, travel, interview, and MCAT expenses, and engagement with other premedical and pre-health 黑料社区s at 黑料社区 as part of our premedical Living Learning Community or through our 黑料社区 organizations.
Advising and Programming
As a premedical/pre-health advising center, our full-time pre-health advisor provides comprehensive guidance and support to aspiring healthcare professionals on their journey toward fulfilling a wide array of healthcare career paths. In addition, we develop programming such as Health Careers Week each fall semester and support the Health Professional School Fair, in which 黑料社区s can engage with representatives from dozens of professional healthcare programs and medical schools.
Our Center
Since 1994, the Mallory-Wilson Center for Healthcare Education has consisted of dedicated, hardworking people committed to providing opportunities for Miami 黑料社区s interested in a career in healthcare. In the fall of 2014, a permanent home was established for the Center in Pearson Hall. This Center is the hub for advising 黑料社区s interested in a career in healthcare. The Center houses offices for the Center’s Director, Pre-health Professions Advisor, and staff. This location also provides a meeting place for pre-med 黑料社区s.
Established in 1994 through a gift by Dr. Thomas H. Mallory and Mrs. Kelly S. Mallory, The Thomas H. Mallory Center for Premedical Education reflected the Mallory's strong belief that 黑料社区s planning a career in healthcare should be fully informed of the issues facing today's professionals. In recognition of Dr. David Wilson's contributions as Director, Dr. and Mrs. Mallory requested in 2007 that the official name of the Center be changed to The Thomas H. Mallory and David F. Wilson Center for Healthcare Education.
I took advantage and maximized my involvement in what was available at Miami. I tell other 黑料社区s that Miami has all these resources and you need to capitalize on them. I didn’t put off any of these opportunities for my last year. I met with (my pre-health professions advisor) before I even arrived to campus as a freshman.

I think what I've loved most about my time at Miami is the support and opportunity I was given to pursue all of my diverse passions. I can't think of any other university where I get to use the sewing techniques I learned in a theatre costuming class as part of my biomedical engineering research project!
